WOMAN ENTREPRENEUR 2011
The world of business is changing and more and more women are making their way in it.
It is said that woman entrepreneurs make the workplace more human. They know what it’s like to have problems with childcare or sick children, and they understand the need for more flexible schedules and family-related leave. They say that, in general, women entrepreneurs are more willing to take risks and to be creative and imaginative. They are also excellent administrators because since the dawn of time they have been the ones managing the family.
The woman entrepreneur whom we are recognizing this evening has all these excellent qualities. The fifth of 10 children, she quickly learned to work in a team, to calculate risks, to deal with her family, to work, to manage her time and to develop her creativity.
Our little Danielle was a very quiet young woman, but also very determined. She finished high school in Kedgwick in 1980 and enrolled in a program to be an accounting clerk, graduating in 1982.
From 1982 to 1994, our future businesswoman was a Jill of all trades holding down various jobs in the region. In the mid-1980s, as computers were becoming more and more common, she decided to update her knowledge and enrolled in various programs that equipped her for the future.
Disco was still raging when our little Danielle found her own big love, and we really mean big (6’2”, 44’’ shoulders). She officially said I DO to Denis Thériault in 1987 (25 years this year). Their union has produced two magnificent daughters, Josée and Valérie, of whom she is very proud.
From 1994 to 2001, she worked at the Groupe Savoie component factory. As you can see, nothing can hold our Danielle back.
She valiantly balanced her time between her family life, her work, her professional development and a bit of volunteering.
For instance, she was on the parents’ committee of her daughters’ school, chairing it from 2007 to 2008.
She was also on the Board of Directors of CCRK Inc., and served for two years as its president.
In 2002, she finally got a job related to all the training she had been amassing over the years!!! She became an accounting clerk. For those who remember, she worked for the Centre Forestier de Kedgwick and the Papeterie Coin Cadeau!! And that’s when our little Danielle started to get a taste for stationery!!!
She remained in that job until the stationery store closed in 2005.
The year 2006 brought good news for the region, a stationery store opened up in Kedgwick and our friend changed directions. She was offered the job of managing Papeterie Notre-Dame. Up to her ears in paper again!!!
In 2007, her professional life changed when her boss announced to her that he wanted to sell the store. After some discussions and mature reflection with her husband, she made the leap from manager to owner and acquired Papeterie Notre-Dame in May 2007.
Another new businesswoman added to the list!
Major challenges awaited her. Competition was fierce, department stores were hard on this businesswoman, and what can we say about transportation costs! Thanks to her energy, courage, work ethic and creativity, she diversified and added a number of extra services such as a ticket agency with Atout Culture, a bookstore section, a gift department, a delivery service to businesses, photocopying and, especially, high-quality, personalized layout and printing services.
The demand for personalization just keeps growing! That’s why, in the fall of 2011, Papeterie Notre-Dame moved into larger, more accessible facilities where it can better meet its clients’ many needs.
Our little Danielle will certainly face other great challenges, but the shy, quiet little girl we once knew has become an accomplished businesswoman who has been able, with the support of her husband Denis, to take the bull by the horns and follow her dream, and her clients are reaping the benefits every day! You’re always available, always smiling and listening to your clients. If somebody has an idea, or is looking for ideas, for a lay-out or a document, no problem, they know that you will be able to offer them products and services just for them and in their image. That’s your brand!!!!!
My dear Danielle, this evening CCRK is proud to present you with the Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award for 2011 for all your efforts, for your love for your business and for all your clients and for allowing our region to benefit from a service company par excellence.
Ladies and Gentlemen, give a warm welcome to Danielle Thériaut of Papeterie Notre-Dame.
