Dr. Carole Ouellette

2011, Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award by the Grand Falls region

From an early age of 10, our laureate developed a passion for customer service. She loved interacting with the public and serving them with a smile. In her teenage years she learned all aspects of running a business from making deposits, frosting and decorating cakes, to catering and so much more. Although she had a great aptitude for business and valued her experience, our award winner decided to orient herself into the healthcare sector as she was always intrigued with the sciences and the human body.

Following her intuition, this remarkable individual pursued her studies at Université de Moncton where she completed a two-year health sciences degree and then was accepted to study Chiropractic at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto. Following her graduation in 1997, she began her practice at the Britannia Chiropractic Clinic in Ottawa. Starting out as an associate doctor, she quickly became a cost-sharing partner.

This entrepreneur attributes hard work to start a practice, especially in a city where no one knows who you are and there is a chiropractor on every street corner. She began reaching out to her community, giving health clinics, emergency service on the weekend and made sure to give the best chiropractic care she could in order to get referrals and repeat clients. By 1998 her practice was booming and her confidence was up.

Over the next 10 years, she experienced many wonderful moments. She became the chiropractor for the University of Ottawa’s Women’s hockey team, developed a strong affinity towards women’s health, pregnancy care and pediatric chiropractic, gave birth to daughter Carina and son Maxime and witnessed a tremendous growth in her practice. Eventually the city buzz started to wear off and she missed the simplicity of life in the Maritimes. Having a business partner was nice but being her own boss seemed more appealing…And so began her new vision of a life and career in Grand Falls.

Imagine a place where many different health care professionals come together to collaborate in order to help people find their path to optimal health. The calm décor and relaxing music exude a sense of wellbeing as soon as you walk through the doors.  Dr. Carole Ouellette made this dream a reality by opening Grand Falls Chiropractic Wellness Centre on October 15, 2008.

The collaboration among multiple health care professionals to offer patients treatment programs based on individual needs is what makes this centre so unique. They offer a variety of chiropractic techniques ranging from gentle non force to traditional chiropractic in areas such as family, prenatal and pediatric as well as nutritional counseling, custom foot orthotic, cold laser therapy, registered massage therapy, naturopathic medicine and acupuncture in a bilingual environment with over 15 years of combined years of experience.
Word-of-mouth has been a very powerful tool in obtaining new clients. Furthermore, referral incentive programs, educational pamphlets and her fabulous Website have been helpful in growing her client base.

Carole’s passion for service extends beyond her practice instead. From an early age, this entrepreneur understood the importance of giving back to her community. She believes that helping those in need is priceless. As a self-proclaimed hockey fanatic, she helped create a women’s hockey league in the region. Her health centre is a sponsor but she also dedicates her time as a member of the executive committee and as a player. Carole gives many donations to children’s sporting events ranging from hockey and to a cancer foundation “L’Arbre de l’Espoir”. Her company also provides sponsorship to the women’s hockey team in the form of a full-set of jerseys and also collects non-perishable food items to be donated to the local food bank.

In January of 2010, Carole gave birth to her third child, a daughter named Chanelle and as of recently, Carole has filled all of her rooms at the Centre. She offers chiropractic care, custom orthotics, professional grade vitamins and supplements, radiological services, a newly added cold laser, a registered massage therapist, a registered holistic nutritionist and as of this month; a doctor of Naturopathy/Acupuncturist.

Dr. Ouellette considers balance as the most important aspect of a successful entrepreneur but also recognizes that it is one of the most difficult things in life to achieve. She finds balance by maintaining a strict work schedule comprised of three early morning shifts and two afternoon shifts to enable her to spend time with her children. She also makes time for the gym, readings and meditation as well as spending time with her husband Marco.
The best advice Carole ever received was to “Learn to follow your intuition and listen to your heart, it never lies.” She certainly took this advice to heart and was able to marry her two passions of “business” and “science” into a meaningful career.
Caring, compassionate, an amazing work ethic and the ability to make a dream a reality are characteristics to describe this year’s award winner. Her future looks bright with big plans on the horizon. She would like to include a holistic physician, a midwife and another chiropractor to her Centre.
Without further adieu ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to present the prestigious Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award to Dr. Carole Ouellette.

"I would like to thank you for picking Ben's Clothing for the retail consulting makeover.  I very much enjoyed talking to Barbara.  She has wonderful insites on what to do to refresh my store.  I was extremly excited of the ideas put together thats in my budget for now and also in the near future.
The 1st part of the seminar, had opened my eyes to the reality of my challenges and concerns, statistics, operating cost and marketing which is a huge part that can not be ignored. It's a must to have a list of issues to know it and control it.  This is a large part of my battles that I face but placed them in the back burner.
When Barbara came into my store I wasn't sure what to expect because in the seminar she was leaning towards makeovers for a new store or toronto style store.  I had no idea that a little bit of paint in a different color will bring out what I want to promote.  She had alot of new ideas that are in the budget and I'm going to make it happen!
Thank you again for filling me in with the seminars that are offered.  I'm always willing to get informed and always moving forward."
