Claudia Martin is an occupational therapist. Occupational therapy is a branch of rehabilitation that works towards independence of her clients through occupation. Occupational therapy promotes balance between self care, productivity and leisure. Claudia was born in Quebec and studied there; she has lived in northern NB for nine years and in Charlo for seven years. She worked at the Extramural program in the community for several years and developed a new program “Techniques de réadaptation” at CCNB-Campbellton Campus where she is currently teaching. Claudia has developed her own private practice in occupational therapy. She offers her services throughout Northern NB and around the Bay of Chaleur. Her clients vary in age from newborns to senior citizens and come from different backgrounds, such as children with learning disabilities, or with various handicaps, people that struggle after a work injury or a car accident and veterans, to name a few. She can offer pediatric assessments, ergonomics, job site analysis, evaluation of home independence, etc. Her business has grown by word of mouth and has quadrupled since inception five years ago. “With almost 10 years experience, I love to have the freedom to offer customized services to my clients. I go visit them at home or in their enterprise. I had the desire to do things in a different way, and to offer good service.” Claudia also volunteered in Nicaragua and in Haiti. Closer to us, she was involved with Easter seals N.B. for numerous years and she is involved in her community in sports and outdoor activities. Always giving back and acquiring new knowledge, she is a member of provincial, national and international associations and has participated in several congresses and conferences.
