Belliveau Insurance

The Women in Business Network of Restigouche recognized Ms. Brigitte Belliveau as the 2008 Woman Entrepreneur.

Mrs. Belliveau is the head of Belliveau Insurance, which has just opened a branch in Dieppe, as well as maintaining its office in Campbellton.

The story of Belliveau Insurance began in 1983 with Thomas Belliveau. He operated his business while gradually bringing in his daughter Brigitte and his son Luc. Throughout her studies in administration and insurance, Mrs Belliveau would come back during the summers to work for the family business and wound up working there full time. The brother and sister took over the business in 2003 and in 2004, Brigitte became the sole owner.

She says she learned a lot alongside her father and her brother. The three share a management style and pace of work, which helped maintain the business’ continuity.

The fact it is a small family business also offers an advantage when it comes to employees. They are treated with respect, and not like a number, she says. It is as if they are part of the family. This approach  works, since the firm tends to keep its employees, up to 20 years in some cases.

Over time, she has seen more and more women directing the companies she deals with. Where women have a bit more difficulty is in balancing family and work.

While caring for her two young children, Mrs Belliveau directed the expansion of her business. She knew she couldn’t wait for clients to come to her, so she searched for business opportunities by offering specialized products to target groups.

Directing offices in two different cities requires a lot of time, but Mrs. Belliveau maintains here commitment to Restigouche by being a member of the board of the Campbellton Regional Chamber of Commerce and of Downtown Campbellton Centreville.

Congratulations Brigitte Belliveau !

“When I met the NB Association of CBDC’s they were willing to help and give advice, that’s when I really felt like I had made the choice by opening this business in New Brunswick. You just don’t get that attention in bigger cities.” In Toronto for example there may not have been an economic development agency that is eager for you to open your own business.
